A conductor who tunes the orchestra of your technology
Imagine your manufacturing business, apartment complex or household was an orchestra. Then you need first-class musicians. Have a top-notch energy solution, use meaningful equipment and technology, and solve the whole system maintenance issues. Ideally you also need a conductor who combines all the components into a single whole and offers you a “concert” and the experience of how it perfectly fits. Such a platform is being developed in the Czech Republic and is called FLOWBOX.
Its main goal is to truly “chart” an efficient production environment, a prosperous commercial building or civic amenities facility, or “tune” a residential complex to the satisfaction of its residents. At the same time, it can also be the basis for the functioning of smart cities. It can save energy, optimize traffic and detect anomalies. In industry, this leads to greater production efficiency, reduced production and operating costs, and also greater comfort in managing the company in terms of technology operation.
Deliver power to where it is currently missing
How does Flowbox work? The procedure is always the same whether the production plant, commercial building, school, swimming pool or city is at the end of the chain. The first step is to install energy monitoring systems. The measurement is followed by an analysis which results in the optimal control method for the whole. The key is to use the input energy so that the operation can work with minimal reserve.
‘’Platforms such as Flowbox are of great importance for future energy flow management, ”says Flowbox’s spiritual father and CEO Petr Vaněk. “If we want to move towards decentralization of energy and build smart grids, we need a system that can analyse and then work with the end outputs to regulate the power distribution system. In short, a system that is able to use the excess energy and deliver it where it is missing. ”
Simplicity is essential
The key competitive advantage of Flowbox is its simplicity, “For example the cinema and theatre in Revnice, where the Flowbox platform controls the heating, ventilation and door opening. The system, which can be operated very simply by mobile, not only monitors the energy flow and creates ideal climatic conditions, but also monitors fire and motion sensors, ensuring the safety of the building. Another area in which we can use the system is sports. Flowbox manages, for example, a unique swimming pool for rowers and canoe training in the grounds of the Water Sports Club in Štětí, designed by the team of Professor Pollert from the Czech Technical University in Prague. ‘’Flowbox “conducts” everything from engine control, climate settings and flood system activation to security, “adds Petr Vaněk.
Increasingly, the Flowbox platform is also widely used in office buildings, hotels and residential buildings. “Smart buildings don’t save the most passively, for example by thermal insulation, but actively, using tools like Flowbox. That is why it is ideal if we have the opportunity to work with the developer right from the start of the project so that we can get the most out of Flowbox management, “says Petr Vaněk.
Another example of the project is the Corso pod Lipami residential project, where it manages 6 houses, 50 apartments, a restaurant, a brewery, a bar, a co-working centre or the biodynamic public lighting of the adjacent pedestrian zone. The advantage for residents is cheaper energy, the ability to automatically control all important functions and technologies, but also the comfort of the surrounding area, such as access control systems or parking.
Smart City. Don’t start from smart benches!
Just as a single platform can manage an apartment complex, it can orchestrate the entire city. Here too, the most important thing is the initial analysis of the huge amount of input data. “Smart cities need to start making a meaningful use of energy before investing the money saved at a visible level, for example in smart stops or waste bins. The reverse procedure does not make sense, “says the other Flowbox executive Tomáš Rendla. ‘’The initial investment in the “conductor” will be returned quickly, as effective energy management will take effect in weeks or months. The prediction of accidents, which the platform is able to perform, based on data analysis, will also bring great savings’’
